7 YEARS!!!!

7 has such a grown up sound to it, don't you think?  Different than 6.  More mature and more independent.  We celebrated her with a trip to Waterton yesterday at her request.  She said she didn't need lots of presents and wanted to go for a hike and out for dinner instead.  It was a fantastic day doing all the things she loves.

At 7:
-is excelling at school.  She is a top reader in her class and speaks French so well.  She has joined the school choir and the running club.
-plays piano very well (I say this as a piano teacher and not as a mom).  She's very good!  And after a rocky start to the year, is enjoying playing (and even practicing) again.  She is in ballet and is really enjoying that and joined the Conservatory Children's Choir that I accompany.  She started swimming lessons and has finally gotten the hang of it!  I wasn't sure that would ever happen!
-still has some tics.  Some have been extremely noticeable and annoying (like the week of nonstop sniffing) and others have been slight (wrinkling her nose like a bunny).  They have subsided considerably, thank you, thank you, thankyou.
-is a great reader.  She's reading novels all the time now.  She wakes up in the morning and grabs whatever novel she has on the go (currently the BFG by Roald Dahl despite declaring it too scary a couple of months ago).  She is reading level 10 French readers (not sure what that means but that's what it says on the books!).
-not sure what she weighs but she has a checkup later in the week and I will update then.  She wears mostly size 6-7 shirts but needs size 7 pants for her long legs.  Her feet are size 13-1.  She has lost 6 teeth and as you can see from the picture, this includes her front teeth.  They've been gone for quite a few months now and show no signs of growing in any time soon!
-slight obsession with food...when's the next treat coming, what are we having for the next meal, etc.  Hopefully this is healthy and not a sign of trouble down the road.

Favourite things lately:
-riding her bike, reading, hiking, dancing, music.
-drawing

Dislikes:
-most meals we prepare for supper.

Things I never want to forget:
-just how much she has changed.  We had close friends over for ice cream cake on Friday and when I lit the candles, she shouted, "SING!".  This is a far cry from the little girl turning 3 who cried when everyone sang to her because she was so embarrassed.
-hugs where she wraps herself around my legs.
-how she waves from the bus every morning.  And how bittersweet it is to see her get off the bus and come running up to me.

Bark Thins

These are proving to be very dangerous to have in the house. Let this serve as a reminder never to buy them again.

Sleepovers

I think it's so cute when the girls crawl into bed together to have a sleepover. That lasts about 5 minutes and then I regret agreeing to it because it tends to mean them playing and staying up much later than they should! This week they've been going straight to sleep though. When I went to bed, this is what I found...they couldn't be any sweeter!

2016

Here we are, at the start of a brand new year.  We had what is probably my most favourite Christmas to date so while I'm mourning the end of that, I love fresh starts and getting back into a routine.  And what a routine it is!  The first week passed in a blur with the return of most of our regular activities and the addition of a few new ones.  The list includes 26 piano students in my studio, 6 Kindermusik classes a week to teach, choir for Sammy and I, new ballet classes for Sammy, new skating lessons for Presley, piano lessons for both girls, new guitar lessons for Shawn, work, school, piano practice, reading practice, working out, outside time and squeeze in time for family and friends.  It requires careful planning to go off without a hitch but we're pros at it by now.  With all of this, I haven't set any goals for the year (except survival?!).  Did you set goals?

Make a Wish

Sammy came home from school today with an interesting tidbit of information. If you cry a real teardrop onto a mirror, your wish will come true.

So, the girls have been trying to make each other cry for the last hour so that they can make their dream of flyinf become a reality. Surprising each other, telling scary stories, telling sad stories and kicking each other in the stomach (I had to step in that point!).
